FC Augsburg are currently preparing for their first match of the second half of the season, as FCA take on VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, 28th January at 15:30 CET. Head coach Manuel Baum spoke about several different issues after training.
On the last match against Hoffenheim: “We executed our game plan in the first 45 minutes. We didn’t allow them to create many chances and we wanted to build on that in the second half. Going behind so early on after the break threw our plan out the window. We were absolutely convinced that we could keep the three points in Augsburg. However we still moved the ball well and in the end we were just missing that cutting edge. The good thing is that we know where we need to look at things.”
On the upcoming match against VfL Wolfsburg: “Wolfsburg have strengthened their squad over the winter break and are likely to perform differently this half of the season. They have won their last three games though and will be difficult to play against at the weekend. We are really looking forward to this game and have already spent time analyzing the opponent. We can definitely pick up points there with a good team performance.”
On the youth players: “We have a lot of good young players at the club at the moment who we want to bring into the first time. For example, Tim Rieder made the first team squad on Saturday against Hoffenheim. He’s been training really well, both here and at the training camp in Marbella. Other young players are also making a good impression. I’m really pleased with the progress they’ve been making and one or two are close to breaking into the first team.”
