Augsburg have made another addition to their squad with the signing of the talented Felix Uduokhai, a player who already has Bundesliga experience. The 21-year-old will be an improvement to Augsburg’s defence, and already knows one of his new teammates very well.
Felix Uduokhai cheerfully holds up his new FCA colours, standing next to sporting director Stefan Reuter after completing a season-long loan move. FCA have also agreed an option-to-buy clause with VfL Wolfsburg for the defender, who made his mark in the Bundesliga at just 19 years of age, after making the switch from 1860 Munich two seasons ago. Uduokhai made 30 Bundesliga appearances for the Wolves, as well as playing in five DFB-Pokal games, and scored three goals during his time there.
Uduokhai was born in Annaberg-Buchholz, roughly 30 kilometres away from Aue, and grew up in Erzgebirge. He played for the Violets as a youngster, before his footballing journey took him to Bavaria. At 1860 Munich, he rose through the ranks of the youth system before finally earning his promotion to the first team in 2016, making his Bundesliga 2 debut against 1. FC Nürnberg. Uduokhai made 22 appearances for the Lions, scoring his first ever goal against SV Sandhausen.
“After talking to the club, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I have made the right decision.” – Felix Uduokhai
Augsburg’s European runner-up
Together with Marco Richter, Uduokhai took part in the European U21 Championship in Italy last June, making it all the way to the final where they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Spain. Richter and Uduokhai will now reunite in Augsburg colours. The defender is looking forward to his new challenge, and feels his time in the red-white-green jersey will be a success. “After talking to the club, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I have made the right decision and I hope that I can help the team to be successful this season,” asserted the new signing.
