FC Augsburg have ended the 2018/19 Bundesliga season with a heavy 8-1 defeat away in Wolfsburg. Here is the post-match reaction.
Julian Schieber: “We made too many individual errors today. It is a shame as we didn’t show a good reaction after conceding several goals. We became unsettled after Wolfsburg took the lead. This is something that shouldn’t happen. I can’t celebrate scoring my first goal for the club after a result like this.”
Daniel Baier: “We simply conceded too many goals today. It is a special feeling to be able to play Bundesliga football on a Saturday afternoon. However, we didn’t show that we value our place in this league. This defeat was a further warning sign that everyone has to do more to secure positive results. I’m pleased the season is over after a performance like this.”
Martin Schmidt: “This was our final match of the season and we did have a smaller squad as well as calling up a couple of academy players. However, a result like this cannot happen. It is a huge disappointment. The team didn’t show the strong mentality today which they have in other matches. That was not a competitive performance and we have to apologise for how poor it was. Congratulations to Wolfsburg for reaching their target of returning to European football.”
Wolfsburg head coach Bruno Labbadia: “The team gave everything they had today. They showed passion, a strong fighting spirit, good pressing. It was a superb performance. We showed the readiness and mentality needed to win and I’m proud of the way in which the team has developed. I’m also extremely pleased that the team have secured European football for next season. That is the crowning moment in what has been an intensive season. I can only thank the team for achieving this target.”
