“The longer the game went on, the better we played. We fully deserved the victory,” said FCA midfielder Marcel Heller following the game. FC Augsburg dominated Cologne, with Alfred Finnbogason being the difference thanks to his outstanding hat-trick. All the reaction to the game can be read here.
Michael Gregoritsch: “We were clearly the better team, and more than earned our win. We’ve already played two good games without really getting anything from them. We managed to change our fortunes today. You could see how the togetherness we have in the changing room transfers itself on to the pitch. Success will come when everyone pushes for the same goal together, and we proved that today.”
Marcel Heller: “We knew heading into the game that Cologne already have their backs to the wall after two losses. We used the international break to put in some more work, and that worked brilliantly today. We executed what we planned. The longer the game went on, the better we played. We fully deserved the victory. We can’t focus too much on this game however, and it’s important that we build on this experience.
Alfred Finnbogason: “We played just how we wanted to, and executed our game plan perfectly. We obviously didn’t want to be under pressure right at the beginning of the season, so this win is massive for us. It was a great team performance – we were the better team and had more opportunities. We played with passion for the full 90.”
Manuel Baum: “A win has a good ring to it, but we know we have much to improve on. We benefitted from two or three moments of luck which went our way. In the second half, we made too many errors and played too passively. We will stay humble and keep on working.”
Peter Stöger: “Augsburg deserved to win today, because we made it too easy for them to score. We had one or two chances to get back in the game, but we couldn’t capitalise. When you don’t take your chances in the Bundesliga, you won’t get any points.”
