While Fredrik Jensen is celebrating an important win with Finland in their race to qualify for the European Championship, 21-year-old Ruben Vargas has been called up to Switzerland’s first team for the first time.
During Finland’s 1-0 win against Greece on Thursday, Fredrik Jensen came on as a substitute to see out the Scandinavian side’s fourth win out of their five games. The win kept Finland second in Group J behind leaders Italy.
Another Augsburg player who has reasons to be cheerful is Ruben Vargas. the FCA forward has been called up to take ex-Frankfurt player Haris Seferovic’s place in the squad after he dropped out of the national team to be with his pregnant wife. Vargas played four times for the Switzerland U21s. The first team played out a 1-1 draw in Ireland and will play Gibraltar in Sion on Sunday, 8th September (18:00 CEST).
Also on Wednesday Simon Asta and the Germany U19s were in action in a friendly game against Spain. The right-back started against the Iberians in the 1-1 draw.
