After the opening friendly victory against FC Gundelfingen, next on FCA’s pre-season schedule is a short tournament in Heimstetten. Alongside Augsburg, Borussia Mönchengaldbach, SpVgg Greuther Fürth and TSV 1860 Munich will take part. On Saturday 13th July, FCA will face Fürth at 15:00 CEST in the opening game. Here is an overview of each team.
SpVgg Greuther Fürth
SpVgg Greuther Fürth were founded in September 1903 and are currently playing in the 2. Bundesliga, finishing 13th under head coach Stefan Leitl last season. Fürth won the second-flight in the 2011/12 season but were relegated from the Bundesliga the following season. The most recent competitive meeting between the two sides was Matchday 34 of the 2012/13 season. FCA came out on top with a 3-1 victory and in doing so secured top-flight status.
TSV 1860 München
The new season is just around the corner for the Munich club and ex FCA striker Sascha Mölders. On 19th July, the new 3. Liga campaign will be underway as 1860 host Preußen Münster at home. The ‘Sechzger’ ended the 18/19 season in twelfth place. The most recent competitive game between FCA and 1860 Munich was a 2-0 victory for Augsburg at the end of the 2010/11 season, as the away side came out on top in the Allianz Arena and clinched promotion to the top flight.
A well known opponent, Borussia have been a Bundesliga mainstay ever since the 2008/09 campaign, and finished in fifth place last season, securing Europa League qualification. Last season, Gladbach drew with Augsburg 1-1 in the WWK ARENA and prevailed 2-0 at home.
