Adductor problems have forced Jeffrey Gouweleeuw on to the sidelines so far this season. Now the defender has returned to training – and is itching to get back in the team.
Finally I can get back on the pitch,” said Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who returned to training for the first time on Tuesday. “Now the most important thing is to get back to the level I was at before the injury,” said the Dutchman who is itching to get back out on the field. “I want to put in the effort, show my quality, and therefore help the team.”
Gouweleeuw sees Augsburg start to the season as rather a mixed bag: “We have lots of new players, and they need time to gel,” said the 28-year-old, adding that “I hope that we can rise up the table week by week.” Both he and his teammates will want to make a start on that this weekend when they play Borussia Mönchengladbach. “Of course Gladbach are a good team, but we need to have faith in ourselves,” said Gouweleeuw in an attempt to rally the troops. “We have to show that we believe in our ability out on the pitch.”
