FC Augsburg were named Team of the Year on Thursday evening at the city of Augsburg’s sporting awards. In addition, FCA forward Alfred Finnbogason finished in second place in the Sportsman of the Year category.
Members of the Augsburg-Allgäuer sporting press voted to decide the Sportswoman, Sportsman and Team of the Year before the awards ceremony. FCA finished in second place, behind the Augsburger Panther ice hockey team last year, who finished as this year’s runners-up. Alfred Finnbogason, who is currently injured, accepted the award on behalf of the team. The Icelander was also invited to the podium when he finished in second place in the Sportsman of the Year category, which was won by Augsburg-born canoeist Sideris Tasiadis. “I’m absolutely delighted I’ve been chosen to receive this award, but, as a part of the team, it also makes me proud that we’ve been named Team of the Year,” said Finnbogason after the announcement. Club general manger Stefan Reuter was also delighted with the award: “The team work hard every day and it’s a recognition of the an entire club’s efforts when you receive an award for Team of the Year.”
