As 2018 draws to a close, we look back on some memorable FC Augsburg moments throughout the year. Today in our end of year review: April.
Bundesliga leaders FC Bayern München visited the WWK ARENA at the start of April requiring a victory to secure their 28th Bundesliga triumph. However, FCA went in search of spoiling the party and took the lead through Sergio Córdova. FC Bayern managed to turn the match around and secure a 4-1 victory, sealing the Bundesliga title in the process.
FCA reach the 40 point mark against Mainz
FCA were also hoping to celebrate safety from relegation and another season of Bundesliga football. After a 0-0 draw in Wolfsburg, fate was in FCA’s hands going into their home clash with 1. FSV Mainz 05. The team delivered. Michael Gregoritsch and Alfred Finnbogason, who was returning from injury, both scored to end a four match losing streak at home. FCA had secured 40 points and an eighth consecutive season of Bundesliga football.
At the end of April, Augsburg travelled to Berlin to face Hertha BSC. However, the visitors suffered late heartbreak as they surrendered a two goal lead late on to take just a point back to Augsburg.
