Friendly on Thursday afternoon
FC Augsburg faced SSV Jahn Regensburg in an international break friendly on Thursday afternoon. Marius Wolf scored the only goal of the afternoon, heading in the 1-0 winner for FCA.
A total of 10 players are currently away with their respective national teams, leading to several players from the FCA academy being included in the matchday squad. 17-year-old Felix Meiser was included in the starting line-up as part of a back-three, alongside captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw and Maximilian Bauer.
The start of the first half saw FCA begin brightly, but Regensburg were able to claw back some of their control over the game. Jess Thorup's side remained solid at the back, bolstered by the return of Finn Dahmen between the sticks. A corner from Arne Maier then found the head of Marius Wolf, as he headed in to put FCA into the lead (30').
Augsburg found themselves pinned back inside their own half for much of the second half, as Regensburg continued to search for a way back into the game. Thorup made several changes in the closing stages of the match, bringing in various academy players who helped get the result over the line. The final chance of the match belonged to the second-division side, as they sent a shot over the bar.
FCA will be back in action following the end of the international break, as they travel to face SC Freiburg on Saturday, 19th October (15:30 CEST).
