Tobias Strobl tears his ACL
Midfielder’s season over
The result at VfL Wolfsburg this past weekend (1-0 defeat) was not the only negative for FC Augsburg. Whilst Florian Niederlechner was taken off due to a bruised metatarsal, Tobias Strobl suffered a serious injury.
The 31-year-old, who had started every match since matchday 7 having recovered from an ankle problem, tore his ACL in his right knee in the game at Wolfsburg. This was confirmed by various examinations over the last few days, including at the Augsburg Arthroklinik. As a result of this injury, the midfielder’s season is now over.
“It’s hard to look positively into the future after a diagnosis like this. However, Tobias Strobl is an experienced player and he’s already had to deal with serious injuries during his career. We hope he can recover from this one as quickly as possible too,” said Stefan Reuter, sporting director.
“This is obviously sad news for Tobias and for the team. We would like to wish him all the best,” added head coach Markus Weinzierl. “We’ve already had a lot of injuries this season, including a few long-term ones too. We need to try and deal with this long-term absentee as a team.”
“I felt something was wrong in my knee immediately, which is why I signalled to come off. You always have the hope that it won’t turn out to be that bad, but the MRI scans confirmed my initial concerns,” stated Tobias Strobl. “I will now take the time I need to recover from an injury like this.”
