Thorup: “We all need to deliver”

Friday night at home to Gladbach

First Team 02.10.2024, 15:10

FC Augsburg host Borussia Mönchengladbach at the WWK ARENA on Friday evening (20:30 CEST). Head coach Jess Thorup wants a better performance from his team after losing 4-0 in Leipzig last time out. Ruben Vargas will not feature for the Fuggerstädter.

“We were really disappointed after the game in Leipzig,” reported Jess Thorup at the press conference before the visit of Borussia Mönchengladbach. FCA have worked on both tactical things and the mental side of the game during the week. “You often learn the most in situations like that,” said the Dane. FCA have had the tendency of going behind early on in matches recently, something that Thorup wants to put a stop to with some hard work: “We all need to deliver. The intensity in training has been good, everyone wants to impress.”

Vargas out for several weeks

Ruben Vargas will be unavailable for FCA for several weeks due to an ankle ligament injury. The Switzerland international picked up the knock on Tuesday in training and couldn’t finish the session. “I’m really sad for Ruben, but thankfully he doesn’t need an operation,” revealed Thorup. One potential replacement in the side for Vargas is Yusuf Kabadayi, who, according to Thorup, is showing some good signs. Arne Maier, Alexis Claude-Maurice and Fredrik Jensen are all also options for the starting XI.

Mads Pedersen, who has been out recently, remains a doubt, while Samuel Essende is still suspended after his red card against Mainz. Goalkeeper Daniel Klein and Robert Gumny, who is making good progress on his recovery from a torn ACL, will also not play against Gladbach.
