Schmidt: "We want to show a different side of ourselves"
FCA hope to take some points into the international break as they play Borussia Mönchengladbach this Sunday (6th October 13:30 CEST). Head coach Martin Schmidt spoke ahead of the match about... … the last game: “Of course the result is the first thing you see. A 3-0 loss sounds bad, but you have to look at the game up to the 70th minute. We were good in this game, especially in the defence. This is also reflected in the stats: we led on the pressure we managed to exert on the opposition.” … the areas for improvement: “Sometimes it’s our positional play, sometimes it’s a bad pass, and sometimes the opponents are just very strong. What is certain is that we lack a creative source. We’re missing some players who are important to our formation. We’re not very good in the transition phase at the moment; we need to have more counter-attacks. Anyway, we will continue to grow and get better in this regard.” … the next game: “We’ve identified some areas that we know to be good and some others that haven’t gone so well. That’s football. From our analysis, we’ve worked out a new plan for our next opponent. Also you can change a game with the inclusion of two or three players. We have a chance at the weekend to show a different side of ourselves.” … the early kick-off time at 13:30 CEST: “We train during the weekend in the morning too, so it’s not that much of a big deal. What is different is the routine on Matchday. The day must start earlier altogether, and you have lunch at 10AM. That’s certainly unusual.” … the opponents: “Gladbach play a good pressing game, but they also have good individual players such as Thuram, Pléa and Embolo. They are very strong in the middle of the park, and they are deservedly playing continental football. Although they are playing on Thursday we cannot count on them to be tired. We have to do our homework.”
