Schmidt: “Not in my wildest of dreams”
FC Augsburg beat VfB Stuttgart 6-0 on Saturday afternoon as they set a record for their highest ever victory in their Bundesliga history. “That wouldn’t have happened even in my wildest dreams,” said a happy Martin Schmidt after the game.
Marco Richter: “We expected a difficult game where the teams would be equal, so to win so clearly was not expected at all. We wanted to show from the start that we were able to play good football. We dominated the game and it was an incredible feeling for me to get my second brace this week. We are not mathematically safe yet and so on Friday evening we go again, this time against Leverkusen."
Philipp Max: “We noticed during the week after the win over Frankfurt, that there was a new energy in the team. We started the game really well today, because we learnt from our game against Frankfurt last week. If you go 3-0 up in the first half, of course the game is easier in the second half.”
Michael Gregoritsch: “That was a sensational game today. Simply better than we could have dreamed of. We are now ten points above the relegation zone and theoretically we are safe but with all respect, we won’t let ourselves get too ahead of ourselves.”
André Hahn: “We have never played such a good game, especially with the amount of goals we scored. It was a six pointer, that we were able to win. I have to be honest, I would have taken a 1-0 win.
Martin Schmidt: “The result in Frankfurt was already a great result, but I could have never dreamt of another one today. Our game plan worked fantastically and we played well until the end. The best thing about today’s victory for me is not how many goals we scored but how we won the game. It was top. We have taken another huge step and now we are on the home straight. However, this can be a long obstacle and so we need to play well against Leverkusen on Friday to get the last necessary points. Friday evening, under the floodlights – we look forward to it and will be prepared.”
Markus Weinzierl: “Congratulations to FC Augsburg. FCA won the second ball today very well. I can only apologise for our performance today."
