Schmidt: "It was a win made by hard work, good mentality and passion"
FCA picked up their fifth win of the season against TSG Hoffenheim on Friday evening. Martin Schmidt's side impressed the crowd with their efficient display of counter-attacking. The full post-match quotes are below.
Martin Schmidt: "It was a wild, hectic game. It was very full-on, we ran more than 63 kilometres. With the first counter attack we took the lead, but it was then a very difficult first half. During the break it was important to encourage the boys. The penalty helped our confidence grow. All in all, it was a victory made by hard work, good mentality passion and a good goalkeeper. The win was important for us in order to get further up the table and give us a bit more breathing room. Compliments to the team, even though the final score makes the game seem easier than it was."
Philipp Max: "We have previously never won here before, so this was a very special evening. I am happy for the boys and the fans that we managed to put in such a good performance here. We had expected the Hoffenheim players to be strong and play well in the first half. But we also knew that we will get chances in every Bundesliga game and in the second half we got two counter-attacks and took ours perfectly. I'm damn proud and incredibly happy that we won the game. I'm also really happy that Iago and Freddie scored their first goals."
Florian Niederlechner: “It was a fantastic game and it’s amazing that we won all three points here. Hoffenheim were by far the better team in the first half and we were lucky to go into the break at 1-1. After the interval we capitalised on Hoffenheim’s mistakes really well. Everyone gives everything for one another and that helps us to play really good football. I really enjoy playing in this team. Now we’re looking forward to an important game on Tuesday against Düsseldorf and we want to continue our good run of form.”
Fredrik Jensen: “I am happy that I could make my second start and that we won both games. The fact that I also managed to score my first Bundesliga goal really makes the evening. We were happy to be able to go into the break with the score at 1-1. We then addressed what we need to do better and after the break we scored the goals at the right time. The most important thing is that we got the three points. ”
Alfred Schreuder: “We’re really disappointed with the result. I think we put in one of our best performances at home so far this season. We created lots of chances and dominated the game, but we gave away goals far too easily. However, you have to give credit to Augsburg who were really strong in transition and efficient in the final third.”
