Schmidt "At the end of the day, we deserve that point"
In a committed away performance, FC Augsburg secured a point at VfL Wolsburg on Sunday afternoon. Martin Schmidt was satisfied with the performance: “We were strong defensively and it’s important that we kept a clean sheet.” Read the rest of the post-match reactions below.
Stephan Lichtsteiner: “In the last 25 minutes the hosts put us under some serious pressure, but we fought against that and did well. We also kept our first clean sheet this season, which gives us self-confidence. But we also had great counter-attacking chances and could have taken the lead. Ultimately it was a good and solid performance from us.”
Florian Niederlechner: “We were really good from the first minute of the game. We have played against one of the best teams in Germany and still not lost. Everyone fought for each other and it was a really amazing away game. The point was completely deserved, and if we’d had a bit of luck, we could’ve won the game.”
Daniel Baier: “We’re feeling even better playing on the pitch. Again and again, we’ve played against a top team that could have been top of the Bundesliga had they won. We fought well, denied all of their chances, but also had some big chances. The important thing is that we finally managed to get a clean sheet.“
Felix Uduokhai: “It was a strange feeling for me to come back to Wolfsburg. During the game I just wanted to get my head down and do a good job for FCA. I’m glad that we got a point and kept a clean sheet, and this is important for our confidence and will continue to bring stability. It’s a small step in the right direction, and we know that we have to win games, but these points are important for our development. We can be satisfied with points like these against top teams.”
Martin Schmidt: “The 0-0 suits me down to the ground. We were brave from the off and wanted to play for a win, and both teams had chances to take the lead during the opening period. We were strong defensively and I think that at the end of the day we earned that point through our diligence and hard work. It is important that we got a clean sheet and now we have two important points against two top teams. We are happy to take points like these.”
Oliver Glasner: “At the end of the day we have to live with the result. Our aim was for a home win, but we have to be honest with ourselves that the performance wasn’t good enough today and a chance to win didn’t present itself. We lacked the freshness in the second half, and pushed forward despite lacking accuracy. Augsburg earned the draw with their commitment.”
