Schieber: “I’m happy to be back on the field”
Julian Schieber made his first appearance in eleven games for Augsburg against Eintracht Frankfurt. Now, Augsburg is set to play Schieber’s former club VfB Stuttgart on Saturday 20 April (15:30 CEST).
After recovering from a thigh injury, Schieber was subbed on in the 83rd minute against Frankfurt and now hopes to pick up more playing time in the remaining five games of the season. “By getting playing time with the team, I’m finally where I was hoping to get to all season. I’m fully fit again and want to make a difference in the matches that remain this season. That would end the season on a positive note for me,” Schieber said. Having to watch from the stands as his team fought to avoid relegation was hard for the 30-year-old striker. “I still see myself as a new player for Augsburg and always want to help the team out on the pitch. It was very frustrating for me to not be able to do anything during the weeks where the club was struggling. But, I never lost sight of my goal. I’m happy to be back on the field,” Schieber said.
Schieber hoping to feature against Stuttgart
Augsburg are highly motivated to pick up another three points, especially coming off their recent win against Frankfurt. The match against Stuttgart is a special one for Schieber, as it’s where he began his Bundesliga career. Schieber came up through Stuttgart’s U19 team, and played professionally for the club until the 2012-13 season. Stuttgart are currently in 16th place with 21 points, and are just three points away from the relegation zone. Regardless, Schieber is hoping for a win for Augsburg on Saturday. “You just need to look at the table to see that Stuttgart are in a difficult position. They obviously want to catch up to us, which is something we will try to prevent however possible. We need three points—the only thing that counts is a win.”
