Richter: “I’m working hard for more chances to play”

First Team 26.10.2017, 22:42
Marco Richter has worn the FC Augsburg shirt for more than six years now. Recently, he’s been a crucial part of the U23 side thanks to his goalscoring prowess, and has just celebrated his Bundesliga debut against Hoffenheim. The forward spoke after training on Thursday about the long path he’s taken to achieving his dream. It all came to a head in FCA’s away draw to Hoffenheim around two weeks ago - Manuel Baum made the decision to bring Marco Richter on for Kevin Danso in the 87th minute, with FCA trailing 2-1. The 19-year-old was on the pitch when Augsburg equalised through an own goal by Kevin Vogt in the 89th minute to put an exclamation point on what was already a special moment for Richter. “It’s been a long way to get to this point, but I’ve finally got my chance to show what I can do,” said the striker. “I’ve had a taste of the top flight now, and so I’m obviously hungry for more.” Richter arrived in Augsburg in 2011 as a 13-year-old youth player from FC Bayern. He’s stood out in the Bavarian regional league for the FCA U23s after bagging goal after goal. In total, he’s got 40 goals to his name in a matter of 58 games. The youngster is now looking to take that form into the Bundesliga: “I work hard every day for more chances to play,” explained Richter, although he’s well aware that “it’ll come on slowly.” Richter: “We’ll be travelling to Bremen in good spirits” The striker’s next chance to make an appearance comes this Sunday (29th October, 15:30 CEST) in Bremen. Just like his teammates, Richter is looking to right the wrongs of the game against Hannover, which ended in a 2-1 defeat. “It hurt to lose in that fashion, but we’re now fully focused on Bremen.” Werder are still yet to win in this campaign, although Alexander Nouri’s side are coming off a 1-0 win against Hoffenheim in the DFB-Pokal 2nd round. “We’ll prepare the best we can, and we’ll be travelling to Bremen in good spirits,” said Richter. “Hopefully, we’ll also be bringing the three points back home with us.”
