Another year is coming to an end: 12 eventful months of both highs and lows, along with plenty of memorable moments for FC Augsburg. It's time to once more reflect on the past 365 days. In part ten of FCA's Year in Review, we look back on October.
League action: FCA claimed all three points at home on matchday 6, defeating Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 thanks to goals from Keven Schlotterbeck and Alexis Claude-Maurice. The French forward scored just eight minutes after coming on for his Bundesliga debut.
Augsburg were then away at Freiburg after the international break and suffered a 3-1 defeat. Phillip Tietz got the only goal for Thorup’s side.
The visit of Borussia Dortmund was up next. A sold-out WWK ARENA saw FCA come from behind again to beat BVB 2-1. Alexis Claude-Maurice, making his first start for the club, got both goals after an early opener by the away team.
DFB-Pokal: FCA beat FC Schalke 04 3-0 at home in the second round, booking their place in the round of 16 for the first time since 2019. Claude-Maurice opened the scoring and then two substitutes, Arne Maier and Samuel Essende, added further goals late on to secure a place in the last 16.
International duty: A total of 10 first-team players were away in October with their national sides, with a number of them featuring and recording positive results. Lars Knudsen again filled in as Denmark’s interim coach.
Off the pitch: After months of preparation, the new FCA fan shop in the heart of Augsburg opened its doors in October. Spanning a spacious 300m² sales area, the store at Maximilianstraße 9 offers everything an Augsburg fan could desire: an exclusive selection of classic fan merchandise, lifestyle clothing collections, as well as the latest kits and teamwear from the club.
At the regular general meeting held in the middle of the month, over 1,000 members gathered in the business club of the WWK ARENA – a record turnout for FCA. For the first time in several years, all seats on the supervisory board were newly filled, and the honorary council was also restructured. Additionally, members were updated on the current situation and the past financial year.
