Morávek: “We have to show courage”
Returnee speaks ahead of Köln showdown
Jan Morávek was back in the line-up against Eintracht Frankfurt after a year and a half away. The 31-year-old discusses his time out, his comeback and tonight’s game against 1. FC Köln (20.30 CEST).
Jan, you started the game in Frankfurt. How much of a surprise was that for you?
In the last few weeks I’ve been able to train well and without pain. I have felt really good. So then you obviously hope for an appearance sometime. The week with two games offered the chance to rotate and so I got to play.
You’ve managed to put a tough time behind you, a period that seemingly didn’t want to end.
Yes, unfortunately you can say that. Every time that I worked my way back, the next injury cropped up. Unfortunately my body kept giving me more problems and set-backs. That is really frustrating but I’m an optimistic guy and giving up was never an option for me. Now I hope to be able to play our last four games without any problems. Right now I feel really good.
“We have already overcome some really tough situations in the last nine years.”
Our lead over the places below us has already melted away somewhat. Every time that you think you’re out of the woods, things get tight again.
It’s a shame but I think that we’ve already overcome some really tough situations in the nine years that I’ve been here. So I’m really optimistic and the fact is that we have it all in our own hands.
Now it’s time for a real showdown against 1. FC Köln.
We can take a huge step forward with a win – that’s obvious and something that we are aware of. Köln surprisingly beat Leipzig and that will definitely give them lots of confidence. But we won’t hide. We have to show courage and risk everything to pick up the three points.
