Mert Kömür signs professional contract
Youth team player given pro deal
17-year-old Mert Kömür has signed a professional contract with FC Augsburg. Kömur, who has already gained international experience with the Germany U17s and U18s, has regularly trained with the first team and took part in both the summer and winter training camps. The youngster’s deal with see him at the club until 30th June 2027.
“I am delighted that I have signed my first professional deal with FC Augsburg. I feel really happy to be at this club and I will give my all everyday in order to fulfill my dream of playing for FCA in the Bundesliga. Of course I am aware that there is a lot of hard work still to do, but this club has shown that they are willing to give youngsters a chance,” explained Mert Kömür, who has been playing for the U19s in the Bundesliga Süd/Südwest this season.
“Mert Kömür has shown in first team training that he has lots of potential and that he is a flexible, creative forward. We are delighted that he wants to take the next steps at FC Augsburg as he has seen what we offer our younger players. We will carefully continue his targeted development to make sure that one day he will play for FCA at the WWK ARENA,” said managing director for sport Stefan Reuter.
Aaron Zehnter became the eleventh player from the FCA youth academy to make his debut for the first team in the Bundesliga after he came on in the 1-0 win over Leverkusen last time out. Zehnter and Kömür are both clear signs that the Fuggerstädter will be able to rely on the talents from the Paul Renz Academy well into the future.
