Martin Schmidt: "We played like the game was already won"
It was an afternoon to forget as FC Augsburg were badly beaten 5-1 by Borussia Mönchengladbach. The full post-match quotes are below. Florian Niederlechner: “We had an awful first half and you cannot expect to get away with playing like that in the Bundesliga. I can’t remember such a bad half-time. The second half was fine, even though Gladbach weren’t foing as much as they had in the first half. We didn’t do well up front and made it difficult for our defenders. The defeat really hurts, and we have to take some time to get over it. But we have a good squad morale and it will be different next time.” Philipp Max: “I think that we were all asleep in the first half and you cannot play like that in the Bundesliga. Augsburg can’t play like this in this league ever again. In the second half we had two counter-attacks that we could’ve done better with. Even though it’s hard to do, we need to find some positives in that performance for the next couple of weeks.” Martin Schmidt: “In the first 15 minutes it was like we weren’t on the pitch: we didn’t put up a fight, we were always one step behind, we weren’t creative, and we left too many large gaps. That’s how the score got to 3-0. In addition, Gladbach were very clinical and effective, but that was more down to our own mistakes. We played like the game was already won, but today was like two steps back instead. We have to put in a lot of work and get the little things right.” Marco Rose: “It was a very good game and we got into it well. We took our chances well, worked hard to get possession and made a lot of good decisions. That’s why the win was well deserved.”
