Irvin Cardona joins AS Saint-Étienne on loan
Until the end of the season
Irvin Cardona's loan deal with Espanyol has been cut short, with the 27-year-old instead joining French first-division side AS Saint-Étienne on loan for the remainder of the season. Cardona had previously spent time on loan at the club in the second half of last season. Both clubs have agreed to keep the details of the loan agreement undisclosed.
Cardona scored once and provided an assist in 16 games during his time at Espanyol, making five starts for the club. He will now return to Saint-Étienne, where he scored eight times in 19 league games in addition to contributing two goals to their successful promotion-winning playoffs campaign. Saint-Étienne are currently in 15th in Ligue 1, with Cardona brought in to help the club secure safety.
"Irvin approached us with a request to return to Saint-Étienne, where he felt very at home and where he had previously put in strong performances. The possibility of granting his request during the winter transfer window was made possible by Espanyol's agreement. We wish Irvin all the best for the remainder of the season at his former club," said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
Cardona is still under contract at FCA until 30th June 2027. He has scored once and contributed one assist in 13 Bundesliga games for the club.
