Iago sidelined after ankle op
Brazilian out of action for the next few weeks
Augsburg’s Iago was forced off with an ankle injury in the 77th minute of the 3-1 loss away to Borussia Dortmund. The left-back missed the following game against VfL Wolfsburg and is now unfortunately set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
Augsburg head coach Heiko Herrlich will have to make do without the 23-year-old for the next few weeks. After a conservative approach didn’t have the desired outcome, the Brazilian underwent surgery at the Hessingpark Clinic on Monday evening in order to remove a loose body from his right ankle.
“The doctors said that the operation was a success, so I’m hoping that the rehab to come goes well too and that I can rejoin the team as soon as possible,” said Iago, looking forward with optimism after the operation.
“We will be keeping our fingers crossed for Iago in the weeks to come and we wish him all the best with his speedy return to the squad. Hopefully he will be able to get back on the pitch and help the team soon,” said Stefan Reuter, FC Augsburg’s managing director for sport.
