Iago and Brazil secure Olympic Games qualification
While his club teammates were losing to Frankfurt 5-0, one FCA player had a reason to be cheerful last weekend. Iago and the Brazil U23s secured qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a 3-0 win over Argentina.
Leverkusen’s Paulinho (13‘) and Hertha’s Matheus Cunha (30‘, 55‘) scored the goals for the Seleção against Argentina, who had already qualified before the game began. Despite playing the full 90 minutes in the last three games, Iago was an unused substitute against Argentina. The victory gave Brazil second place in the South American qualification play-offs, thus securing them a ticket to the Tokyo games. In addition to Germany, France and Romania, U21 European Champions Spain have also qualified for the Games.
