Hoffenheim match reaction
FC Augsburg have made sure they will be playing Bundesliga football next season for the seventh year in a row! The team battled to earn a 0-0 draw in an exciting game at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. We bring you all the match reaction here.
Alfred Finnbogason: "My heart is still racing, it feels like a win today. We knew that a point would be enough for us as everything was in our own hands. The support from our fans was awesome, it really pushed us on the field. We had already been written off a few weeks ago but in the end we deserved to keep our place in the Bundesliga."
Halil Altintop: "It was a very tense match but I always had a good feeling about it. Our opponents played some very good football but we also had our fair share of chances going forward. On balance we deserved the point but our brilliant mentality that we have shown in the past few weeks was what has kept us in the league."
Martin Hinteregger: "We all know what this team can do and we have demonstrated that in the past few weeks. We had a difficult run-in so the relief is even bigger. We knew that it was down to us to make sure we stayed up. We defended very well today and when you consider how the whole season has gone, we deserve to be playing here next year."
Paul Verhaegh: "We completely deserved it. Nobody had given us a chance for the last three matches but we didn't lose any of them. The spirit in this team is incredible. Every one of us did their bit, so we can all be very proud."
Philipp Max: "It has been a tough year with so many injuries. We slipped into the relegation place at one point but we always believed in ourselves and we will rightly be in the Bundesliga next season."
Manuel Baum: "We're thrilled that we were able to stay up based on our own result. We were brilliant in the first half and we only thing we were missing was that clinical finishing going forward. Hoffenheim were stronger in the second half and we were lucky when they hit the post twice but we battled to get the point and deservedly made sure we will be in the top flight for 2017/18.
Julian Nagelsmann: "Congratulations to FC Augsburg for staying up! I'm pleased for them because it is important for the region I grew up in. I don't want to say too much about the match itself, we gave them too many chances on the counterattack in the first half and we should have scored in the second but ultimately we are pleased that we'll be singing the Champions League anthem here in Hoffenheim next season."
