Hamburger SV post-match reaction

First Team 19.08.2017, 18:56
A hard-working team performance but no points in Hamburg. The team failed in the final third according to head coach Manuel Baum. Read further reaction to the game here. Daniel Baier: “You could see that we wanted to win the game today. Everyone took their fair share of responsibility and got stuck in. Unfortunately, we lost our concentration once and were punished for it. Overall though, I have to be positive about the performance. The way we played makes me happy.” Alfred Finnbogason: “We know that every game is going to be difficult. We’re always the underdog but we’re okay with that. We have only lost one game. There’s no need to panic too much.” Martin Hinteregger: “We were dominant for long periods of the game but we struggled as our opponents were sat very deep. We have to be able to break down teams better and be more threatening in the final third. We fought hard and all the way to the very end. That takes courage.” Michael Gregoritsch: “We got into our opponent’s third many times but we weren’t able to use the ball effectively when we were there. In every statistic, we were better than HSV – except the one that matters. That makes the defeat even more difficult to take. With regard to the incident in the penalty area, I thought there was going to be contact and because of that I fell over. That wasn’t the right thing to do.” Manuel Baum: “We are upset about the result as we deserved at least a point. We just have to pat ourselves down and get over it. We didn’t defend well enough for their goal but, aside from that, our mentality and performance were good. We just need to get the goals our performances deserve. There were lots of crosses into the box but we didn’t do anything with them.”
