FCA sign Stephan Lichtsteiner
FC Augsburg went back in to the transfer market on Monday to sign experienced full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner. The 35-year-old Swiss international, who already has 105 caps to his name, has signed a one-year deal with the club. The right-back spent last season with Premier League club Arsenal. He was then released at the end of the season, leaving the door open for Augsburg to snap him up.
“We’re really happy that such an experienced player like Stephan Lichtsteiner has decided to join us. He has had such an influential career in Switzerland, France, Italy and England as well as with the Swiss national side and with through his experience, he can really bring some extra quality to our team,” said Stefan Reuter.
“FC Augsburg are a team that have really been developing in recent years. This will be a real challenge for me, but one that I wanted after my time in England. I feel that I can bring a lot to this young and hungry side and I’m feeling looking forward to doing so. The atmosphere of the Bundesliga is something I’ve always wanted to experience.” Stephan Lichtsteiner can hardly wait to join up with his new teammates.
The 35-year-old, who has already played for top clubs such as LOSC Lille, Lazio, Roma, Juventus and Arsenal, will wear the number 2 shirt for Augsburg. The Swiss international will join up with the team for training on Tuesday ahead of their first home game of the season against Union Berlin on Saturday.
