FCA hand Tim Schnitzer long-term contract
Young talent set to be integrated on step-by-step basis
Alongside Noahkai Banks, Mahmut Kücüksahin and Felix Meiser, Tim Schnitzer is now the fourth homegrown talent of the year to sign a long-term contract with FC Augsburg. As has been the case for the other graduates of the Paul Renz Academy, this newest young prospect will also be integrated into the senior squad on a step-by-step basis as he continues his development.
The 16-year-old has been at FC Augsburg since U10 level. For each of the past three seasons, Schnitzer has been playing one age group up, featuring 22 times for the U17s during the 2023/24 season. The defensive midfielder was given the captain’s armband at the start of the current campaign with the FCA U17 team, appearing in 13 of the 14 matches played so far, recording three goals and three assists. The player born in Augsburg also featured once for the U19s, who he is set to gain some match practice with over the course of the second half of the season. Schnitzer has five caps at youth international level for the Germany U17 side, with whom he recently reached the second round of EUROs qualifying.
“Tim Schnitzer is a player with a lot of potential and one who has been playing an age group up in recent years. We want to continue Tim’s development within our talent management set-up, taking individually-targeted steps with him in order to prepare him for professional football. We are pleased that Tim has shown trust in the FCA philosophy by signing a long-term contract and also that we are able to support his journey towards senior level,” said FCA sporting director Marinko Jurendic.
I grew up in Augsburg and having been playing for FCA since I was nine. I have always dreamed of one day getting the chance to play at the WWK ARENA. Therefore, I am really proud to have FCA supporting me in my progression towards professional football as I continue to develop step-by-step. I will carry on working hard and I look forward to my future here in Augsburg,” told Tim Schnitzer.
