First Team 24.07.2017, 17:14
FCA have not just been focusing on the upcoming season during the summer, but also for the long-term future. That is why the club has extended the contracts of four of its key players. Midfielder Daniel Baier, whose current deal was due to last until June 2018, has added on a further year to his deal that will run until 2019. Forward Caiuby extends his contract by two years, keeping him at the club until 2020, whilst left-back Philipp Max and center-back Jeffrey Gouweleeuw sign until June 2022. “We are delighted that we have been able to get this done before the start of the new season and keep these four key players at FC Augsburg for the foreseeable future,” said Stefan Reuter, chief executive of FCA. “Having a great spine to the team has allowed us to excel in recent years. Having Daniel Baier, Caiuby, Philipp Max and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw commit their futures to FCA is a clear sign that they are convinced by the development of the club and the path we are going down as well as wanting to follow that path together with FCA.” “FCA has become my club,” said Daniel Baier. “What I have experienced in my nine seasons here has been sensational. I want to continue to help shape the amazing history of this club in the future.” “I had a difficult time last season with my injury but I and my family feel incredibly happy at FCA. Augsburg has always supported me and given me the time I need to get fit again. That is why I want to pay them back with my performances on the pitch in the coming years,” explained Caiuby. “FCA gave me the chance to play in the Bundesliga and to develop as a young player. I don’t view this development as finished. On the contrary, I am convinced that this is exactly the right environment for me,” said Philipp Max. Dutchman Jeffrey Gouweleeuw has also decided to extend his deal. “At FCA, I have the opportunity to play in one of the best leagues in the world. My family and I feel very happy here. The prospects for the club footballing wise are also in line with my objectives, so I am looking forward to spending the next few years at FCA.”
