“Embrace the challenge”

First Team 04.04.2017, 10:54
FC Augsburg now turn their attention to Wednesday, when they will host FC Ingolstadt 04 at the WWK Arena. "I'm confident in the quality that we possess and we are preparing very intensely for this game. We want to keep the three points here in Augsburg," said a bullish Manuel Baum. Augsburg's head coach was also quick to put the defeat away at FC Bayern München behind him. "We're not analysing this game anymore. Bayern are simply above everyone else, so it makes no sense to go over the details of that game again. Our complete concentration is now on FC Ingolstadt." Part of that for Baum involved attending the Schanzer's 2-1 victory over Mainz on Sunday himself. "I was there in Ingolstadt and they played how I would have expected them to. They do a lot of long balls and press aggressively. I get the impression that they are trying to go back to basics." The 37-year-old is also likely to be able to count on midfielder Daniel Baier once again. After being out for about five weeks with an Achilles injury, Baier will be fit just on time for the derby against Ingolstadt. "I've been injured for a long time now and you can really feel it when you come back into training. But I've had a good week and am really looking forward to the next game," said the 32-year-old. As one of the leaders in the dressing room, Baier was clear that he does not agree with the view that the team are yet to fully comprehend their current league position. "We never thought that we were already safe. Of course things went against us at the weekend in terms of the results around us. It is as close as it has ever been in the relegation battle and there are still a lot of games to play. "But we all know what we have to do." Manuel Baum will have two more options for his squad on Wednesday. "It's good to see that one or two more players are coming back again," said Baum. Konstantinos Stafylidis and Martin Hinteregger also made their returns to training on Monday.
