Carlos Gruezo departs FCA for the United States
Deadline day transfer to San Jose Earthquakes
Carlos Gruezo arrived in Augsburg from FC Dallas in 2019. After 75 competitive appearances for FCA over three and a half years (0 goals, 1 assist), the 27-year-old midfielder has now completed a move back to the USA.
The Ecuadorian, who was under contract at Augsburg until 2024, has joined Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes, whose head coach Luchi Gonzalez was also at the helm during Gruezo’s spell with FC Dallas. The transfer fee is undisclosed.
“Carlos Gruezo requested a move back to the MLS so that he could be closer to his home and his family in South America. We gave him permission to hold talks in America at the beginning of the year. Although the negotiations took a little time, we have come to an acceptable financial arrangement with the San Jose Earthquakes. We would like to thank Carlos for his time at the club and wish him and his family all the best,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.
