Baum: “We never let up”
FC Augsburg came away with a clear victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday afternoon. “It was a really good performance from us,” said head coach Manuel Baum after the game. He was particularly happy about one player’s achievement in particular. Read on for all the reaction to the game.
Marcel Heller: “We invested everything into that game. By the end, we fully deserved to win. We pressed well from the beginning and forced them into making errors. Marwin Hitz was also stellar as our last line of defence. Overall, I thought we played outstandingly.”
Marco Richter: “I’m at a loss for words. We played so well and put in a great team performance. I’m over the moon that the coach put his trust in me. To score my first Bundesliga goal at the end - that was the icing on the cake.”
Michael Gregoritsch: “It was a great game and we absolutely deserved to come away with all three points. We started the game well from the very start and carried that forward for the whole 90 minutes.”
Daniel Baier: “We knew that Frankfurt try to play a very physically imposing style of football and we had to defend against that - and we managed to. We created a lot of chances, but especially in the first half, we couldn’t make use of them. When you waste so many opportunities like that, you often get punished, although thankfully we didn’t today. Credit to the team and the way we made up for losing so many of our first team players. We deserved the win against what was the second best away team in the league. But we have to stay level-headed now and keep striving to achieve our goals.”
Martin Hinteregger: “We did a really good job today and deserved to win. 31 points after 21 games is crazy for us.”
Manuel Baum: “It was a really good performance from us - we never let up. Unfortunately, we let a few big chances slip, although we still deserved to win. I’m especially happy that in Marco Richter we have another homegrown talent who has celebrated his home debut.”
Niko Kovac: “Credit to FC Augsburg. We didn’t imagine things would turn out like that. They were extremely good in the first half and did the basics well. It’s one of the first times that I can say we were clearly the inferior side. FCA fully deserved to win. We have to move on from this quickly, because we now have a very important game in three days.”
