Baum: "We made it really tough for Bayern"
FCA fought for 90 minutes against FC Bayern, yet succumbed to a narrow 3-2 loss in the end. “We made it really difficult for Bayern,” said Manuel Baum, who had reason to be pleased with his team’s performance, despite the result. Read on to hear reaction from the players and coach after the game.
Gregor Kobel: “I’m really proud of the team - we fought until the very end and you could see that we really wanted to. Bayern are just in a class of their own and exploited the smallest of spaces when they opened up. We were confident and aggressive, even though most had written us off ahead of the match. That must give us courage.”
Philipp Max: “I can only take my hat off to the team and the fans. Putting in a performance like that in such a tough game against a team like Bayern is no easy thing to do – something which the fans unquestionably celebrated. The game began brilliantly for us, but we then conceded again shortly before the break. We would have liked to have gone into the changing rooms with the lead. Nonetheless, I’m certain that we can still carry on picking up points if we go out and play as a team, like we did today.”
Michael Gregoritsch: “We showed a definite reaction after the Bremen game, but unfortunately leave with no points, despite a solid team performance. Still, we can take a lot of confidence from the game and travel to Freiburg with plenty of optimism. If we put in performances like today over the next few weeks, then we will pick up points.”
Manuel Baum: “We tried to be courageous again, so it was very annoying when we conceded right on the stroke of half-time. Bayern then took the lead, but at the end of the game I still think that we were the stronger of the two sides. We made it really tough for Bayern. Our main takeaway can be that our team went out there, gave everything they could and fought against all the obstacles that came their way. The support from the fans was also fantastic. In this respect, we’re convinced that we will learn the necessary lessons from this match.”
