Augsburg sign Brazilian Iago
Augsburg have dipped their toes into the market once again, securing the signature of Brazil youth international Iago. The 22-year-old joins the club from Internacional for an undisclosed fee.
Iago, whose full name is Iago Amaral Borduchi, has signed a contract until the 30th June 2024. The left-back is currently part of the Brazilian youth squad that lifted the Maurice Revello Tournament in Toulon last week and is looking to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“We are very pleased that Iago has chosen to join Augsburg, despite a number of offers from elsewhere. We have put a lot of intensive work in the past few weeks and months as he is a player with a lot of quality and versatility. We are convinced that Iago will be a fantastic asset to our squad and will develop as best as possible in the Bundesliga,” said sporting director Stefan Reuter.
“It has always been a dream to be able to play in Europe. FC Augsburg had shown their interest in me early on and went to a lot of effort for me. I am delighted to have the chance to test myself in one of the best leagues in the world and want to repay the faith shown in me with good performances,” said Iago.
Iago reached the round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores this season with Internacional, playing in each of the six games in the South American Champions League. In the Brazilian top flight, Série A, Iago has 40 appearances to his name.
