Aaron Zehnter’s Germany U19s picked up a win in the Four Nations tournament in Malta, whereas Robert Gumny’s Poland had to settle for a 0-0 draw in their World Cup opener against Mexico.
Poland and Mexico played out a 0-0 draw in their opening fixture in Group C at the FIFA World Cup. Augsburg’s Robert Gumny, who played for the full 90 minutes in a friendly against Chile a week ago, had to watch his side’s battling performance from the bench. Although chances were hard to come by for both sides, Robert Lewandowski had the opportunity to give his side the lead from the penalty spot just before the hour-mark, but his effort was saved by veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.
Poland are next in action on Saturday (26th November, 14:00 CET) against Saudi Arabia, who shocked the world of football on Tuesday by defeating two-time winners Argentina 2-1. Ruben Vargas’ Switzerland are set to get their World Cup campaign underway on Thursday, when they face Cameroon in Group G.
