Winther: "We want our first win of the season"
Matchday programme interview pre- #FCABMG
Frederik Winther has been playing for FCA since the summer. Ahead of today’s home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, the 20-year-old Dane spoke for a piece in the matchday programme about his first few months in Augsburg, his debut with the U21 national team, and the team’s test against Gladbach.
Frederik, what have been the biggest differences between Augsburg and your hometown in Denmark so far?
I actually think Germany and Denmark are very similar in a lot of ways, especially in terms of culture and mentality, so I was able to settle in very quickly and feel more and more comfortable every week. The biggest difference is probably that I sadly don’t see my family and friends as regularly.
You made your Denmark U21 debut during the last international break.
That meant an awful lot to me. Playing for your country is always something very special, whether that’s for the seniors of the youth teams. So I’m enjoying my time with the national team as best I can. I’d only played for the U19s thus far, now I got a chance with the U21s. That’s the next step and it shows me that I’m on the right track.
"My time will come in Augsburg."
FCA have struggled with a lot of absences at centre back recently. Do you see this as a chance to get some minutes in the Bundesliga soon?
I will definitely do everything I can to make it happen. After all, as a footballer, you want to be on the pitch. However, if that doesn’t work out for me in the next few weeks, then I won’t let my head drop; I’ll keep concentrating on improving. I am sure that my time will come in Augsburg.
Next up are Borussia Mönchengladbach. What kind of game are you expecting?
We’re playing at home and the atmosphere will definitely be amazing once more. Our aim is clear: We want to get our first win of the season.
