Welcome to Augsburg, Marek Suchy!
FC Augsburg have entered the transfer market again, as Marek Suchy becomes the seventh new arrival of the summer, signing a contract with the club until 2021. In Suchy, FCA have secured an experienced defender who has also featured heavily on the international stage.
Whether it is Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain, Marek Suchy has faced a host of Europe’s top clubs in his career and has now chosen to represent FC Augsburg in the next stage of his career. “The offer from a Bundesliga team was the most interesting option for me. I really appreciate that FCA showed such a big interest in me personally.” Most recently, Suchy was at FC Basel, where he wore the captain’s armband and made 163 appearances, scoring eleven goals. During his time with the club, Suchy was Swiss champion four times in a row and lifted the Swiss Cup twice between 2014 and 2017.
During his career, the 31 year old has made 38 Champions League appearances. In his first UCL game for Basel, Suchy faced Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid, and scored his only goal in the competition during a 4-0 win over PFK Ludogorets Razgrad.
Prague, Moscow and the national team
Before beginning his long career with Basel, Marek spent five years at his hometown club Slavia Prague and four years in Russia with Spartak Moscow. Suchy made 109 league appearances for Prague and scored one goal, before scoring five goals in 84 games for Moscow. At just 19 years of age, the defender made his Champions League debut with Slavia Prague, defeating Steaua Bucharest 2-1.
