Weinzierl: "We were the better side over the 90 minutes"
Post-match reaction to the win against Union
FC Augsburg delivered a strong performance and came out 2-0 winners against 1. FC Union Berlin. "We did exactly what we had discussed doing," said head coach Markus Weinzierl after his side's first win of the year. Read on for all the post-match reaction from both camps.
Rafał Gikiewicz: "I'm very happy about this win, because it wasn't easy for me after having to spend seven days in quarantine. It's great that we kept a clean sheet and we were definitely the better team. It's also something special given that it was against my former club, and I haven't lost against them for the last two years. I'm also happy that there were fans back in the stadium - that completely changes the atmosphere."
André Hahn: "Right from the start, it was a great game from us. We pressed hard, were alert and aggressive, won a lot of tackles and created several chances. This was definitely our best performance in the second half of the season. We will need something similar in the upcoming games. If we manage that, then I'm certain we will be able to pick up the points we need."
Michael Gregoritsch: "It was great to have the fans back in the stadium. Right from the first minute, we proved that we really wanted to win. We did extremely well in the first half. In the end, we absolutely deserved to win. After all, we also had a lot to make up for after not winning any of our first three games in the second half of the season. We have worked hard over the last two weeks and this passion proves that we know how to play good football."
Niklas Dorsch: "Even if only 7,600 fans were allowed in, it completely changed the atmosphere. The fans were behind our every move and that was also the reason why we were able to be so dominant. We showed that we can be strong at home. But, we also need to be able to deliver in the away games as well - if we do, then anything is possible. I'm convinced that we will be able to draw further confidence from this game."
Markus Weinzierl: "We played well today and deservedly won. We were the better side over the 90 minutes, but failed to get a second goal before the break. We managed that in the second half, with a great strike from André Hahn. I'm very happy for the team, as we had a long break between now and our last game. We did exactly what we had discussed doing. That's how it should be and how we need to continue on."
Urs Fischer: "Based on the game, it wasn't an undeserved win for FCA. We started well, but then lost control. That was also due to Augsburg's high press, which caused us a lot of stress. We made a few bad decisions. It was tough to come back from 2-0 down. We also had chances in the game, but lacked that clinical touch."
