Weinzierl: "Incredibly proud of the lads"
Post-match reaction to the win against Bayern
FC Augsburg handed FC Bayern a 2-1 defeat on Friday night, following a determined defensive performance. "We play excellent, especially in the first half," said head coach Markus Weinzierl. Read on for all the post-match reaction from both camps.
André Hahn: "There's nothing better than to play at home in front of a soldout crowd, for what will likely be the last time in the next while, and to beat Bayern. We didn't just defend with passion and determination, but we also created chances up front. We occupied the final third in several situations, and were rewarded with goals. My compliments to the entire team, who gave it everything today."
Niklas Dorsch: "This win means a lot to us. We wanted to showcase how strong we are at home and delivered a strong performance. We didn't hide but pressed hard right from the start, even after they got a goal back. It was a fantastic game from us."
Mads Pedersen: "We knew that it would be a tough game, because Bayern have a lot of good players. But, we gave it everything and wanted to create as many chances as possible for ourselves. Of course I'm happy to have scored my first Bundesliga goal and now I just want to enjoy the win. It's an incredible feeling."
Rafał Gikiewicz: "Who could have predicted this? It's a dream come true for me as well, to beat Bayern at home in front of a sold-out WWK ARENA. Bayern have more quality than us, but in football, the better team doesn't always win. Today, we absolutely deserved to win because we ran hard and played good football as well."
Markus Weinzierl: "We played excellent, especially in the first half, and fought hard for the full 90 minutes. Both goals were beautifully played out from attacks down the left wing. When you're 2-0 in front, then it gives you the belief that you can see it through. Bayern got better as the second half went on, because they were able to bring in some talented players off the bench. But, we defended with a lot of skill and desire. Of course, you also have to be a bit lucky and our subs were able to seamless slot into the game. Overall, we deservedly won. I'm so proud of the lads, and this is how we want to continue on. I will always remind the team of tonight's performance as a measure of what we can do."
Julian Nagelsmann, FC Bayern head coach: "In my eyes, it's a deserved win for Augsburg. We had a lot of space in the first half, but weren't able to use it. We played a lot of back passes and rarely broke free down the wings. Then, we went 2-0 down in the span of a few minutes. We are disappointed with the result and frustrated with ourselves, because we're capable of playing much better than we did today. In the end, we didn't create enough clear-cut chances to take at least a point. FCA played with a lot of passion and focus."
