Vargas: "I feel really good"
Vargas speaks about how he feels following a strong World Cup.
At the end of the year, a dream came true for Ruben Vargas. The FCA professional took part in the World Cup with the Switzerland national team and started in all four games. The 24-year-old is feeling positive ahead of the rest of the Bundesliga season.
"For me, it was a huge career highlight to take part in the World Cup. Especially because I got a lot of minutes," says Vargas, who has also already been part of the 2021 European Championship squad. At the World Cup, Switzerland qualified for the last 16 after wins against Cameroon (1-0) and Serbia (3-2) and a narrow defeat against Brazil (0-1). However, the side suffered a bitter 6-1 defeat against Portugal.
Nevertheless, Vargas looks back on his time at the World Cup with satisfaction; against Serbia, FCA’s attacker even set up the third goal with his back heel. "The tournament has given me self-confidence. I feel really good and I’m fully fit," said the native of Adligenswil. Vargas, who was on the pitch for 10 of the 15 games in the first half of the season, has also repeatedly proven his dribbling skills and ability to score during the training sessions in Algorfa.
"Of course, you’re happy when it all starts again," Vargas explained before adding: "I want to help the team as much as possible - preferably with goals and assists, but also with any defensive work". Words that are sure to please all FCA fans.
