Uduokhai: “We need to prepare well for the season ahead”
Pre-season training gets underway
After completing performance tests on Monday and Tuesday, the FC Augsburg players were out on the training pitch for the first time with a ball at their feet ahead of the 2022/23 season. Following the public training session, defender Felix Uduokhai spoke about...
…targets for the new season: “We’ve been together for three days now and today was our first session with the ball. It’s a fresh start for everyone and we want to take things step by step. The foundations have been set and now we need to prepare well for the season ahead.”
…the Augsburg defence: “I believe that we’re really strong at the back. Unlike last year, we’ve not lost anyone and we therefore know each other well. I think this experience and chemistry will be a real benefit to us. We’ve also got Maxi Bauer as well now, so I think we’re strong in this department.”
…the style of play Enrico Maaßen has mentioned: “I’ve only known him for three days, but he has clear ideas that he wants us to study over the next few weeks. FCA’s basic values have always been to work hard and remain patient when things aren’t going so well.”
…competition for places in the team: “Everybody obviously wants to impress when there’s a new coach. That applies to both the young and the old players in the squad. I hope that we’ll have a healthy competition for places all the time.”
…last season: “Some might say that it was a lost year for me. I had to deal with several injuries and never really got going. Nonetheless, it wasn’t a lost one for me personally, I learned some important mental lessons. Football is my job and my passion, but I’ve learned that it’s not the end of the world if things aren’t quite going to plan or how you’d like them to. There’s ultimately more to life.”
