Training camp in Algorfa: FCA's winter schedule confirmed
Friendlies against Zurich and Heidenheim also planned
FC Augsburg will take part in a training camp in Spain as well as two friendlies before the Bundesliga restarts on 22nd January (15:30 CET) against Borussia Dortmund.
Due to the long World Cup break, FCA’s winter training is set to be split into two blocks. Most recently, Enrico Maaßen’s side attended the membership AGM at the start of the week, before the squad headed off on vacation, during which they are completing their own individual training plans.
Maaßen has planned his first session back at the training ground for Monday, 5th December. The preceeding weekend will see internal performance reviews – and the training block ends just before Christmas on Tuesday, 20th December, so that squad and staff can spend the holidays with their families.
In this approximately two-week period, two friendlies are planned: firstly, Swiss record champions Grasshopper Club Zürich visit Augsburg on Saturday, 10th December, before FCA meet second division side 1. FC Heidenheim on Friday, 16th December. Further information on these friendlies is to be communicated in due course.
From Tuesday, 3rd January 2023, the Fuggerstädter will be getting ready for the first competitive game of the new year away at Borussia Dortmund (Sunday, 22nd January, 15:30 CET). One day before this period starts, the squad will head to Algorfa, in the Alicante Province of Spain, for a training camp – visited by the side once before in 2019. The training between 4th and 12th January in warm-weather conditions will allow for the players and coaching staff to prepare as effectively as possible for the remaining 19 Bundesliga matches.
