Tietz: “We’re still unbeaten for the fourth game in a row”
Reaction after the 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim
FC Augsburg came from behind once again against TSG Hoffenheim and secured a point in front of their home fans. Here is the immediate post-match reaction.
Ermedin Demirović: “We’re not totally pleased today. In the first half, we didn’t find moments to press, and we weren’t as up for it as we have been recently. The fact that we came back yet again speaks to the character of the team. At the end of the day, we still had our chances, and we should have utilised them smarter and more calmly. Still, big respect to the team.”
Niklas Dorsch: “Unfortunately, we started the game poorly and had to make up a deficit, but that is exactly what sets us apart at the moment, we knew that we could come back again. We changed a few things at the break and started the second half better. At 1-1, we were in the game, but unfortunately weren’t able to reward ourselves with a win. With my chance, I was completely free and then unfortunately I stumbled a bit. It’s annoying for me obviously that I didn’t manage to score.”
Phillip Tietz: “At the end of the day, we have to be pleased with a point, especially after a poor first half, but in the second half we were much better and created both more chances, and more clear-cut chances. In the end, we will take the point and remain unbeaten for the fourth game in a row. That’s also credit to the coach, who spoke with all the players and has also injected us with a newfound self-belief."
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): “Hoffenheim played very well in the first half, we had problems with putting them under pressure and were always a step behind. We changed the system at half time, and it worked much better. I had hoped that we could take our chances to get another win, but at the end of the day, we stay unbeaten for the fourth game in a row. There is still a lot more work ahead of us.”
Pellegrino Matarazzo (TSG Hoffenheim head coach): “The overwhelming feeling today is disappointment – not just because of the interruption to the game because of flares, but also because the result and the performance in the second half. We should have been ahead by more at the break thanks to our dominance and control of the game, but then in the second half we conceded an unlucky goal where we defend really poorly. We knew that Augsburg would pile on the pressure after the break and we wanted to hold up to that, but we didn’t manage to do that.”
