Thorup: "We're ready for Hoffenheim"

Away in Sinsheim on Saturday afternoon

First Team 27.03.2025, 14:30

With the international break behind them, FC Augsburg have shifted the focus towards Saturday's trip to face TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (29th March, 15:30 CET).

"Ten Bundesliga games without defeat is a very special milestone for FC Augsburg," said head coach Jess Thorup. The Dane knows, however, that their next challenge now awaits in the form of Hoffenheim. "It's about flipping the switch," he said. "Our focus in on our next game."

According to Thorup, "We will need to work hard to get back in the rhythm of things." The head coach is feeling optimistic, however, especially after what he's seen from the team in training this week. "We're ready for Hoffenheim," the 55-year-old declared. The match between the sides at the WWK ARENA ended in a 0-0 draw earlier this season, with current TSG boss Christian Ilzer taking charge of the side from the following matchday. Under his charge, Hoffenheim currently sit in 14th place.

Berisha an option for the matchday squad

"There's still a lot of the season left to play and 24 points up for the taking still," Thorup said. Fortunately, the players on international duty have all returned to Augsburg in good health, leaving Thorup with plenty of options. Robert Gumny, Henri Koudossou, Mads Pedersen and Mergim Berisha all worked hard on the weekend to continue making progress in their respective recoveries. According to Thorup, Berisha has been able to make good progress and is back training with the team. Whether or not the attacker is able to be part of the matchday squad in Sinsheim will be determined on Friday.

During the international break, the team not only prioritised their recovery but also focused on thoroughly analysing their results. "We still need to improve in several areas, both in attack and defence," Thorup explained, adding: "The players can hardly wait for the next game to finally get underway."

Around 1,800 FCA fans are expected to make the trip to Sinsheim this weekend.
