Thorup: "Could see that the team were enjoying themselves”
Post-match reaction to 2-0 win at Union Berlin
FC Augsburg earned their first away win of the season in Berlin on matchday 17. Read on for all the post-match reaction to the victory.
Alexis Claude-Maurice: “We’re feeling good because we won an important game. We waited a long time for our first three points on the road. To have managed to get them now, especially after a good performance, is even better. The win gives us confidence and we now want to build on it in Bremen.”
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “We played well, from the first minute right up until the last. The first half in particular was really strong and we could have scored a third goal then already to essentially put the game to bed then and there. We also didn’t give up many chances in the second half. It’s been a while since we last won on the road, which is why this feels really good.”
Finn Dahmen: “We played extremely well today and deservedly won. We kept our shape well in defence and didn’t give up many chances. Overall, it was a very successful away game. We approached the game as if it were a home game and were able to build on the good work we’d put into training. Now, we want to build on this on Sunday.”
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): “I’m pleased with the team’s good performance. We took control from the first minute, scored some well-worked goals and kept a clean sheet. You could really see that the team were enjoying themselves out on the pitch — it was a great game! If there’s one thing I could criticise after the game, it’s the fact that we didn’t score a third goal. In the closing stages of the game we gave our academy products Mert and Noki a chance to prove themselves, even though the game wasn’t over yet. That’s the approach that we’re taking.”
Steffen Baumgart (1. FC Union Berlin head coach): “We lacked precision on our chances. Despite having more men back to defend, we still conceded twice. That can’t happen to us. The boys fought hard, but FCA were the better team today.”
