Schmidt: “We have to work hard as a result of this performance”
FC Augsburg’s winless run against Bayer Leverkusen continues. In their Friday night match on matchday 31, Martin Schmidt fell to his first defeat in charge in a 4-1 defeat. "Overall, Leverkusen fully deserved to win tonight," said Schmidt. Here is the post match reaction. Daniel Baier: “You could simply see the quality Leverkusen possess tonight. They played in a very flexible formation and we simply couldn’t get a grasp on them tonight. We couldn’t get the ball down the wings enough, even when the opportunites were there for us. Today, we simply didn’t do enough to pose too many problems for Leverkusen.” Rani Khedira: “I think we deserved to lose against very strong opponents tonight. Leverkusen are one of the best teams who have played here this season in my opinion. They used their quality to command the play on the pitch and they outplayed us. If you don’t play well in the tackles, then you you lose matches like tonight.” Kevin Danso: “Leverkusen played very, very well tonight and caused us a lot of problems. We try everything to fight back but it didn’t pay off in the end. I’m pleased to score my first goal of the season. However, of course the disappointment of the result is bigger. We have to put this result behind us quickly and concentrate on next week’s trip to Schalke.” Kostas Stafylidis: “We gave Leverkusen too much room on the pitch and they exploited it. They possess a lot of quality. I think we made it difficult for ourselves in the first half. We improved and put some things right in the second half. However, it didn’t pay off against such strong opponents.” Martin Schmidt: “You have to give Leverkusen a lot of credit, they played like a Champions League team tonight. They possess a lot of quality and we saw that we have to work hard as a result of this performance. We were not as precise as we should’ve been on many occasions. Leverkusen punished us for our mistakes. However, it was great to see the team give everything they had after we fell 3-1 behind. Our fans supported us superbly tonight, as if we were winning this match. Overall, Leverkusen fully deserved to win tonight.” Peter Bosz: “I’m very pleased with the result as well as the way in which the team performed. The first ten minutes were difficult, Augsburg put us under pressure. However, after we equalised, we managed to take control of the match. You could see the desire the team had tonight to secure a European spot. It was fun to watch my team play tonight.”
