Augsburg secured a 1-0 win at Paderborn in a dour match without much excitement. “We are happy with our first away win since April,” a relieved Martin Schmidt said after the game. Read the full post-match quotes below.
Philipp Max: “We are very relieved after getting our first away win. We came here to win, and that’s what we did. It wasn’t all great, of course, but we fought well. I really wanted to get on that free-kick, so it was even better when I scored from it.”
Tomas Koubek: “We wanted to win the game, especially after the first 15 minutes, where Paderborn were superior. The penalty was hard, but I’m glad I chose the right way to dive. This result will give us more confidence for the coming weeks.”
Florian Niederlechner: “The penalty save at the beginning was hugely important and gave us the opportunity to get into the game. Overall we worked hard out of possession but also created amazing chances, but we must also know that we did not take full advantage of these opportunities. Nevertheless, I think the overall victory is deserved, given the quality of chances we were able to create. We now have a result we can build on and we will want to continue our winning streak against Hertha next game.”
Martin Schmidt: “We are glad to pick up our first away win since April. We were able to underpin our development as a team with the three points today. We were able to create a lot of opportunities, but we still need to work on our efficiency in front of goal. Last week we lost the game because of set-pieces, today it was a set-piece that won us the match. The penalty and the save early on was a wake-up call for us, after which we began our best phase of play, and from which we should have scored more goals. It was quite nervy at the end, but we held on to our lead and managed to take the three points back home.”
Steffen Baumgart: “In the first 15 minutes we were clearly the better team, but we didn’t manage to get a goal. After that, Augsburg were better, until we got back into the game in the 60th minute. Unfortunately our huge effort was not rewarded again, but we know what we have to work on.”
