Ruben Vargas to represent Switzerland at EURO 2024
The midfielder will make an appearance at the European Championships
Ruben Vargas has been selected for Switzerland’s final squad for the European Championships in Germany this summer.
This will be the 25-year-old’s third major tournament, after he represented the side in both EURO 2020 and the 2022 World Cup. Murat Yakin’s team will face off against Hungary (Saturday, 15th June, 15:00 CEST) and Scotland (Wednesday, 19th June, 21:00 CEST) in Group A, before tackling the tournament hosts Germany on Sunday, 23rd June (21:00 CEST). The Swiss side will be based in Stuttgart during the European Championships, where they’ll train and recover between matches.
Yakin’s group will take on Austria in a friendly prior to the beginning of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in St. Gallen on Saturday (18:00 CEST). “Our preparations are going well, and there's good competition within the squad for a place in the starting line-up. It’s clear to see that everyone has the desire to play, which is very positive for us,” Vargas explained in a recent press conference.
Three Augsburg players on standby
Kevin Mbabu (Switzerland) has left his national team's training camp, as have Arne Engels (Belgium) and Kristijan Jakić (Croatia). The FCA trio are on standby for their respective sides, and are all hopeful to make an appearance at the tournament.
