Ricardo Pepi joins Groningen on loan
Striker looking for more game time
After announcing the signing of centre-forward Mergim Berisha earlier today, FC Augsburg have now made the decision to send Ricardo Pepi on loan to Eredivisie side Groningen for the remainder of the season. Both parties have agreed to keep the details of the loan deal undisclosed.
“I am grateful that the management at FC Augsburg were able to grant my request for a move on short notice. At my age, it is especially important to get as much game time as possible in order to continue to develop. My goal is to take part in the World Cup with my country this winter, which is why it is even more important that I am able to play regularly,” Pepi said about the reasons for the loan. “After my loan spell I want to return to Augsburg and establish myself in the Bundesliga.”
“Ricardo Pepi came to us with the request for a loan move, which we can understand, especially with the World Cup coming up soon. We were able to add Mergim Berisha in attack, and are certain that the Dutch league will be a good place for a young player like him. That’s why we were able to grant the request,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.
Groningen are currently coached by Frank Wormuth, the former head coach of the Germany U20s and an instructor in the DFB’s coaching course. “That also allows us to remain in close contact with Groningen and we are certain that this is the right move for Pepi,” said Reuter.
